Ad Hoc Committee for Stanhope Peninsula Fresh Water System Research

On May 12, 2021 the Rural Municipality of North Shore Council passed a motion establishing an Ad Hoc Committee for Stanhope Peninsula Fresh Water System Research. The ad hoc committee was formed pursuant to a recommendation contained in the Draft 2021 Community Plan (v. 4) [* see below]. Concerns have also been raised by Stanhope Cape residents concerning salt water intrusion, further supporting the need for an in-depth study of fresh water. The PEI Department of Environment, Energy and Climate Action has been involved in the determining the need for a current review.

A second Council motion defined the purpose and scope of the ad hoc committee as: To explore the options and requirements of a fresh water (potable) system for the Stanhope Peninsula which includes working with the study consultants, the province, stakeholders and regulatory bodies. This includes a report and recommendations to Council.
The Ad Hoc Committee for Stanhope Peninsula Fresh Water System Research will be chaired by Mayor Gerard Watts with the following membership: Doug Smith (Vice Chair), Howard Ellis, Stephen Murphy, Jim Revell and Councilor Peter Vriends. The ad hoc committee will also receive advice and historical perspective from Al Goodwin, Ken Hubley and Norman MacLauchlan.
